VISIT OF EMDEN

GERMAN CRUISER MAY BE DRY-DOCKED HARBOUR BOARD ADVISED The dry-docking of the German cruiser Emden * during her visit to Auckland was the intention expressed in a letter to the Auckland Harbour Board, received at a meeting yesterday, from the German Consul, Wellington. The board decided that a previous resolution stating that the board was not prepared to be officially represented on the Harbour Bridge Association was reaffirmed, when a letter was received from the association ask- ! ing that two representatives be ap- j pointed.

Advice from the Harbour Boards’ Association that it was intended to bring pressure to bear on the Government with the object of having the exemption from port dues clauses withdrawn from overseas mail contracts, was received. It was suggested that any action should be supported by the Auckland and Wellington boards which were most affected, the clauses being in the contracts for the Vancouver and San Francisco mail services.
