CLOUDBURST IN NORTH
CARS FORCED TO STOP WATER REACHES HEADLIGHTS (From. Our Oicn Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Tuesday. There was a veritable cloudburst in the Parua Bay district about G o’clock on Monday evening. The sky beeam inky black and preceded by a few thunderclaps rain came down in dense volume.. Cars had to come to a standstill, visibility being impossible for 30 minutes, until the fierceness of the visitation had passed on. At Bushill’s Flat the water rose to the headlights of one stationary car. The low-lying country near Squire’s was converted into a lake, which found an outlet near the bridge, where a torrent of water a chain wide swept across the road, carrying masses of debris with it.
