TE KUITI HOSPITAL

HEALTH MINISTER’S VISIT SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS The Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, paid a brief visit to Te Kuiti on Friday, in order to inspect the hospital, and was accompanied by Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., and Mr. A. Blackman, Waikato Hospital Board representative. The Minister was met at the hospital by Sister M. Hay, matron, and the doctors. Several necessary improvements were pointed out to the Minister, these including more accommodation for nurses in the isolation ward, more laundry facilities, and the metalling of the road to the hospital. Regarding the latter request, the Minister said that if the Hospital Board was prepared to spend £SO, a £ for £ subsidy would be forthcoming from the Government, this being the estimated cost of the work. The Minister complimented the matron on the able manner in which she was conducting the institution. A particularly busy time is being experienced in the maternity ward at present. The Minister favourably commented on the hospital’s annual report, in which it was stated that out of 92 maternity cases there had been no deaths. The Minister left later for Otorohanga, accompanied by Mr. Broadfoot.
