PROGRESS IN PONSONBY LEYS INSTITUTE REPORT The record of a year’s progress was detailed at the annual meeting of the Leys Institute over which Mr. J. B. Johnston presided. Subscriptions amounted to £283, reading fees to £lßl and trustees’ subsidy to £ 325, the total receipts being £1,365. On the year’s working there was a credit balance of £ll. The subscribers’ roll, now numbering 813, showed an increase of 33 on the previous year. During the year 1,248 books had been added, making the total number in the lending library 13,958 volumes. The books issued totalled 77,612, an increase of 2,859. Juvenile subscribers took 4,138 as against 2,881. The number of volumes in the reference library was 16,021, and it is estimated that 57,382 people visited the library during the year.

Valuable work had been done in the gymnasium class under Mr. J. Reid, the wireless class under Mr. G. G. Wolfe, and the junior choristers are to make a new start this year under Mr. Harold Baxter. The following committee was elected: Messrs. J. B. Johnston, G. E. Read, R. A. Rew and Captain H. H. Sergeant
