DISCOURAGE SOCIAL USE OF ALCOHOL ALLIANCE BRANCH MEETS At the annual convention of the Auckland area of the New Zealand Alliance, held in the Unity Hall on Saturday, it was agreed that all churches be asked to make a temperance declaration, to establish a temperance department, under the direction of a. temperance committee, and to undertake a definite programme of activities; also, that youth organisations be urged to include temperance topics in their programmes, and by resolution and personal abstinence to discourage the social use of alcoholic beverages. The president, Mr. J. W. Court, was in the chair, and among the large number present were the Rev. W. J. Comrie, president of the New Zealand Alliance, and Mr. C. R. Edmond, general secretary. The annual report and statement of accounts of the area council were read. Mr. Edmond presented a report of Dominion reorganisation and programme of work.
