NO BIG BAGS
SHOOTING NEAR HUNTLY (From Our Own Correspondent) HUNTLY, Tuesday. Conditions were not entirely favourable for the opening of the shooting season at Huntly to-day, and no big bags are reported. The absence of fog enabled the birds to rise high and quickly, and they were soon out of range. It was apparent that some “bad sports” had been getting in ahead of time, for shooting could be heard throughout the night. Lake Waahi is a popular resort, but reports from returned sportsmen indiflite that the ducks are shy, and have apparently been disturbed before the opening day. The river shooters report similarly. Messrs. Payze, Littleproud, Bcssad, Scott, 'Wallace, Kosoof, and other lake sportsmen returned this evening with only an average of three brace apiece and a few swans. Weather conditions arc good, though there is a decided nil) in the early morning air. which is in favour of the birds. Water conditions in swamps, lakes, and the Waikato River are normal* _
