"WELL FITTED FOR WORK”
COMPREHENSIVE REPORT ON STUDENT TEACHERS “It is the opinion of the inspectors that the students are keen on their work, impressed with the importance of their profession, and eager to do their best for their pupils both in and out of school. In general they are well fitted to take up the kind of work they are called upon to do, especially as assistants in the lower parts of the schools.” THESE words are portion of a, report upon student-teachers, presented by senior primary school inspectors to the meeting of the Auckland Education Board yesterday, their views having first been considered by the Director of Education, Mr. T. B. Strong. In the report it was stated that one ground for criticism was that many of the teachers were not well equipped to take sole charge of schools, mainly because of insufficient experience. Some inspectors thought that student teachers often made mistakes concerning the standard of work to be accepted from their pupils, and often made that standard too low. It was often not the best work that the children were capable of.
