STARVED CASTAWAYS
YACHT SMASHED ON ROCKS TWELVE DAYS’ TRAMP Reed. 9.5 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. News has just reached Rockampton of the privations suffered by Mr. J. Allen and his two sons, who were sheltering in the yacht Eva during a gale off Cape Manifold, when the anchors failed to hold and the vessel was dashed to pieces on the rocks. The trio managed to escape and lived for 12 days on a small bag of flour and some onions which had been washed ashore. They eventually decided to walk to Yeppoon, killing two native bears on the way. They managed to live until they reached a fishing camp at Corio Creek.
