FIRE BRIGADE’S WORK
HAMILTON BOARD MEETS (Special to THE SUN) HAMILTON, To-day. At Monday evening's meeting of the Hamilton Fire Board, presided over by Mr. J. McKinnon, the brigade superintendent, Mr. A. Craig, reported that the brigade had been called out 63 times In the past year, on 24 occasions to actual fires. The superintendent expressed his pleasure at the carrying through of the water loan proposal, and that he could now look forward to a greater water pressure. At present there were 24 officers and men in the brigade, and discipline and efficiency were very high. The buildings in which fires occurred last year were covered by insurance totalling £16,187, and the total loss was only £5,747, of which £5,187 was covered by insurance. The amount paid in insurance premiums in Hamilton last year was £23,410, or £2,000 less than in 1927. The board authorised the expenditure of £2,825, of which sum the insurance companies will contribute £1.375, the Hamilton Borough Council £1.375, and the Government £75.
The board also expressed its appreciation of the brigade’s efficiency and fine work during the year.
