The Log Book

PERSONAL.—Captain M. Kane is now master of the Tamahine, in place of Captain W. W. Fish, who has gone to Sydney on holiday leave. Captain E. T. Smith, R.N.R., is in command of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s new liner Rangitiki. He joined the service of the company about forty years ago, and until recently was in command of the liuahine. Mr. M. J. Anderson, late of the Rotorua, is chief officer; Mr. M. D. Stewart (late Ruahine) is second officer, Mr. N. H. Fane third officer, and Mr. A. D. Wilson fourth officer. The chief engineer is Mr. A. Taylor, formerly of the Middlesex; Mr. G. Ormiston is second engineer, Mr. A. E. Roake third, and Mr. R. C. Youngs fourth. There arc in all 15 engineers in the ship. Mr. G. W. Fraser, late of the Ruahine, is chief steward, Mr. L. V. Horn first wireless operator, and Mr. F. 11. Fowler second wireless operator.

Captain A. H. Prosser, who has been awaiting instructions at Wellington, has relieved the master of the Waihemo, Captain J. Flynn, who is taking holidays at Auckland. The Waikouaiti paid off at Dunedin on Thursday. The master, Captain Reed, and third officer, Mr. Scholefield, are standing by the vessel in the meantime. The chief officer. Mr. T. W. White, is transferring to Sydney for instructions, and the second officer, Mr. R. C. Ingram, is taking holidays at Wellington.
