KEPT AWAY FROM WIFE
ELDERLY MAN ON BAIL REMAND ON ASSAULT CHARGE The elderly man who. was charged in the Police Court earlier this week with assaulting his wife was in the Police Court again this morning. Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., renewed the order of Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., for the suppression of accused’s name. When the case first came before the court Mr. Hunt would not take the risk of letting accused out on bail and remanded the case so that medical examination could be carried out. This morning Mr. McKean allowed bail amounting to £2O in accused’s own recognisance, but made orders that the man should report for examination and should keep away from his wife. Accused was remanded till April 8. For accused Mr. R. P. Hunt said that a remand on bail was being asked. The case was not serious, and the information had apparently been laid by a person who had gained his own knowledge of the affair by hearsay. “If this man does not keep away from his wife he will be arrested,” said Mr. McKean.
