RECORD PROPERTY SALE
CHRISTCHURCH CITY BLOCK SYNDICATE PAYS £750,000 Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The biggest property deal in the history of Christchurch was completed today. It is understood that the total amount involved is about £750,000. The building and land is the triangular block on the corner of High Street and Lichfield Street, occupied by W. Strange and Company, Ltd., retailers of drapery, hardware, boots and furniture, and one of the biggest retail firms in the city. The property has been bought by a syndicate, the membership of which has not been disclosed, but it is believed that the two leading members are Messrs. T. Armstrong, head of another big city drapery house, and W. Machin, manager of the New Zealand Farmers’ Cooperative Association. The stock-intrade of Strange and Co. ,has been bought by the Farmers’ Cooperative Association and the amount paid for the stock is included in the total of £750,000. Three-storeyed buildings cover the area embraced in the deal, which is three-quarters of an acre in extent.
