CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOUR
WELCOME TO MISS JENNIE STREET MEETING IN TABERNACLE .“It Has been said that the Christian Endeavour movement is less powerful than it was once. That is not so. It is ten times as strong as ever it was,” said Miss Jennie Street, noted Christian Endeavour evangelist, speaking at her welcome to Auckland in the Baptist Tabernacle last evening. Miss Street gave Auckland Endeavourers many friendly and encouraging messages from Christian Endeavour Societies in England, Scotland, Ireland wales, and Australia. She described the wonderful sendoff she had received from the Christian Endeavour Union in London, when members met in Christ’s Church, London, to say good-bye to her before she left on Tier tour. She also described her voyage out in New Zealand, and the successes she had had, on behalf of the Christian Endeavourers, in Australia. Finally, she told the audience of some of her experiences working for the union in Czecho-Slovakia. The Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher presided over the meeting last evening, and welcomed Miss Street on behalf of the New Zealand Christian Endeavour Union. Other speakers who welcomed Miss Street were Mr. John Graham, the father of the movement in Auckland); Mr. G. Densem (Auckland Provincial Union) ; the Rev. L. B. Busfield (Sunday School Union); Mr. S. Barry (president of the Baptist Union); Mr. Rusell Dick (Associated Churches of Christ): Mrs. Pudney (Society of Friends); the Rev. W. A. Sinclair (Methodist Church); the Rev. Evan R. Harries (moderator of the Auckland Presbytery). Mr. Noel Carless announced Miss Street’s New Zealand itinerary. She will leave Auckland to-morrow for Ngaruawahia, and will work her way down to Wellington, arriving there on April 20. She is due back in Auckland on May 12, and will then return to Wellington by way of Napier, and will visit the South Island, going to Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, Invercargill, the Lakes, and the West Coast. Miss Street will arrive back in Auckland in September, when she will attend the Auckland Christian Endeavour convention. ±
