DEVONPORT MAYORALTY
DEPUTATION TO MR ALDRIDGE
The present Mayor of Devonport. Mr. E. Aldridge, was urged by the Borough Council last evening to accept nomination for another term. Mr. J. Hislop, 1*- pUty-M I'or. | I the councillors were unanimous in asking Mr. Aldridge to consider renomination. He had worked for six years with him ami had found him ihorouhglv competent and felt that the progress of the borough would bo assured if Mi*. Aldridge were renominated. Mr. Alrridge said that lie had ahva; < regarded the office of Mayor as one » C honour. He was very grateful to the councillors for their kind remarks. 11“ wished to express his appreciation oC the very intelligent and keen suppoi t. he had received in the council. All had done Ihcir best for the borough. He would discuss with Mrs. Ald rid go the matter of seeking re-election and give an answer to the council to-mor-row evening. He was very sorry i.-» hear that five members of the council intended to withdr . w and hoped they would reconsider their decision. Messrs. W. S. Campbell and Massey* two of the five retiring councillors, admitted that they were not definitelycommitted to the idea of retirement.
