ADVANCING MUSIC

ACADEMICIANS MEET

Music-lovers were united under tlie auspices of the Academicians at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Hobson Street, last evening, when the opening of the recently-formed club was performed by Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P. Mr. Mason, in his opening speech, explained the idea of the Academicians, which was to bring together those whose common tastes were music and the arts, and to increase their enthusiasm along those lines. The club would become a centre of activity not only for teachers, but pupils as well.

For the onening ceremony the programme \#> drawn up to bring together some of the works of artists whoso names commenced with a “B.”

Over 70 members were present and tho musical programme was followed by supper. During the evening items were given by the following:—Piano solos, Madame Annie Morris; dra.matic recital, Miss V. Kirkup; song. Miss Beryl Smith; song, Miss Laura Walker; violin solos. Mr. W. Morris; song, Mr. Richards. Competitions were also held.
