POPULAR WAITOMO
HOSTEL FULL OF VISITORS BOOKINGS FOR EASTER (From Our Own Corespondent) TE K.UTTI, To-day. The increasing popularity of the Waitomo Caves as a tourist resort is strikingly shown by the fact that since the opening of the new hostel in November last the hotel has been full of visitors on almost every night up to the present week. The number of bookings for the Easter holidays is very’ large, and to date are greatly in excess of those for last year. Without a doubt, the provision of the new hostel is responsible for the improved attendance. The whole of the furnishings have now been installed, and visitors to these popular caves have now no cause for complaint regarding hotel accommodation. is proceeding apace, the flower beds being enclosed in limestone kerbing. Improvements in the track to the Glow Worm Caves have also been carried out. The provision of playing grounds for bowls, tennis, and golf, as proposed by the Tourist Department, will tend to make the caves a popular week-end resort for business men from as far distant as Auckland. The present train services, and the improvements carried out on the road between Hangatiki and Waitomo, will tend to remove the discomforts until recently associated with reaching the caves.
