RATES BEING LOST
ROSKILL BOARD’S MOVE The question of collecting rates on the property of a religious body in Mount Roskill was again raised at the board’s meeting last evening. Mr. G. E. Tansley said that it was well known the owners were selling milk, thereby using the land for commercial purposes. They should be served with a rate notice. If they refused to pay, the claim should be contested in court. The chairman, Mr. E. F. Jones, said that the board was losing about £3OO a year, but could do nothing until a reply had been received from the Valuer-General giving the value of the property. It was decided to ask the Valuer-General by telegraph why the board’s previous inquiry for the valuation of the land had not been answered.
