MT. ALBERT BOROUGH
The Mount Albert Council, at a meeting last evening, decided to effect repairs to the right-of-way and yard at the Mount Albert Fire Station, and to the concrete paving at the front of the station.
The superintendent of the brigade reported that since the last report 18 calls had been received, 17 of which were to grass fires. The new fire alarm box Avould be placed in position as soon as the lint* was constructed by the Post and Telegraph Department.
Reporting on Selkirk Road drainage area plans, the Works and Righting Committee recommended that the plans be approved and that the acting-engineer submit an estimate for the work to the next meeting of the committee. Regarding Asquith Avenue, the committee recommended that with slight modifications the plans be adopted and that the act-ing-engineer be instructed to call alternate tenders for 27ft and 30ft carriageways from New North Road to Roslyn Terrace and to submit the estimates accordingly. The committee was given power to act.
The joint committee recommended that the acting-engineer be authorised to bring down plans and estimates for the reconstruction of Jesmond Terrace to the next meeting of the Works and Lighting Committee. The committee was given power to act. The building inspector reported that during the past month 34 permits for dwellings, alterations and other buildings to the total value of £10,975 had been issued. It was decided to make formal application to the Loans Board for permission to place the loan proposal of £20,000 for Gribblehurst Park, Morning-side Reserve and Mount Albert reserve before the ratepayers.
Tenders for the New North Road extension were received, but on account of the reduction in the price of cement yesterday it was decided that, the tenders not be opened and that fresh tenders be called within a week. Tlie acting-engin-eer said that the reduction in the price would mean a difference of approximately £260 to £270 on the job.
