ZOO FATALITIES

TIGER CUBS DIE HAND-FEEDING FAILS ! Bad luck continues to follow the Auckland Zoo so far as its tigers are i concerned. The two cubs which ! were being raised on the bottle died j during the week-end. A post-mortem examination showed that death was due to a disease resembling pneumonia. The two cubs had been ailing about 10 days. This is the second litter born to the present tigress. She killed the first lot and also their father. A new tiger was then imported, but is kept away from the tigress most oC the time. I Owing to the tigress neglecting the j last litter of two they were taken from j her, and on advice from Melbourne Zoo ;an attempt has been made to raise | them by hand-feeding. The young hippo, the pride of the ! zoo, continues to do well.
