MORNINGSIDE TUNNEL

WILL IT MATERIALISE? RESIDENTS HAVE DOUBTS “The; consistent users of railway trains north of Auckland feel that the promises of the previous Government in respect to the Morningside tunnel scheme will not materialise.” This statement was made in a letter received at a meeting of the MoLint Albert Borough Council last evening from the Northern Suburban Railway and Highways League. "The league in 19.25 presented a petition to Parliament, supported by 7,000 signatures, and the Government indicated that the scheme would be gone on with. It is imperative that every effort be made to influence the new Minister of Railways not only to approve of the proposals, but to make an early start on the line. “A huge deputation is being organised to meet the Minister on his next visit to Auckland and it is requested that your council appoint two representatives to attend a general meeting to advance the proposals. Mr. A. A. Buckley said that Mount Albert was not being too well served by transport. The tram service was the worst in Auckland. "I have asked that the trams be speeded up and a report is to be brought down,” said the Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes. The? Mayor and Cr. Buckley "were appointed to represent the council at the meeting.
