RATEPAYERS UNITE

TE PAPAPA ASSOCIATION "The bigger the stick we can flourish over the heads of the council the better.” said Mr. J. Mclntosh at Te JPupapu last evening, when a meeting, of which he was chairman, decided to include householders as well as ratepayers in an association which it was decided to form.

Mr. Mclntosh contended that as householders had votes for Me yor and councillors, the wider the scope of membership the greater its influence would be.

Boundaries wer.e tixed between Mount Smart Road on the north, Alfred Street on the west, Manukau Harbour on the south, and the Onehunga borough boundary on the east. A membership of 39 was established by those present and the following officers were elected: President, Mr. H. Parfitt; vice-presidents. Messrs. A. Bennett and F. Langton: secretary. Mr. J. Mclntosh: committee, Messrs. C. Wright, A. Appleton, C. J. Williams, W. Bentley, H. Austin. P. Willoughby, J. Alcock, X. Bouzaid and C. C. Sandford.

It was announced that among the functions of the association, in addition to municipal affairs, will be questions relating to the running of trains and buses, the election of school committees and any questions of public interest to the district.
