QUEEN CROWNED
CEREMONY AT BLANDFORD PARK SUCCESSFUL DISPLAY In the presence of 1,000 loyal subjects, and with all due pomp and ceremony, a queen was crowned at Blandford Park last evening. She was Miss Marjorie Simpson, representing the Association football teams oC Auckland business houses, and sho was crowned Queen of Soccer. The splendour of the elaborate costumes and gray uniforms made the spectacle an impressive one. Floodlights threw the crowning ceremony into bold relief. Five princesses, each with her train, attended the queen, together with State officials. In addition to the crowning ceremony a programme of athletic and musical turns was held. Fairies, under the charge of Miss Daphne Knight. staged a series of delightful dances. Maori songs were sung by a party of boys from St. Stephen's College. They concluded with a display of gymnastics and physical drill. Members of the Auckland Girls’ Athletic Association competed in ball games. An exhibition on “Ayro” wheels, gigantic wheels controlled by the hands and feet of two young men, Mr. T. Martin and Master Bruno, was a novel turn. Sprint racing was an attractive and exciting item, and excellent music was provided by the band of the First Battalion of the Auckland Regiment and the Onehunga and Devonport massed bands. To-night the programme will be repeated.
