DOMESTIC TROUBLE
ASSAULT CHARGE FAILS WIFE NOT IN COURT •'The woman rushed into the police station screaming and crying that her husband had attacked her and had hit her on the head with a chair.’* JSo Constable Jones, of Freeman's Bay, described the event that resulted in John Edward Robinson, a tinsmith, aged 39, being charged at the Police Court this morning with being found drunk in Scotland Street, breaking his prohibition order and assaulting Hannah Robinson. Robinson pleaded not guilty to the assault and said that if he was drunk it was in his home and not in a public place. Constable Jones said that Robinson had admitted striking his wife, but said that it was in self-defence. There was a bruise on her head. Robinson told the court that he treated his wife very well. She was given £8 every two weeks and the neighbours could say wliat a good husband he was. What previous trouble there had been was admitted by his wife to be caused by her bad temper, he said. There was no answer when the name of Mrs. Robinson was called and Senior-Sergeant O’Grady said that the woman had been warned to appear but was probably feeling sorry for what she had said last evening. Mr. F. 11. Levien fined Robinson JC3 for the breach of his border, as the man admitted having had two brandies on account of his bad health. The assault charge was dismissed through lack of evidence and the charge of drunkenness was similarly dealt with.
