Big Land Deal One of the biggest land deals recorded in Southland lias just been completed, Mr. W. Hazlett having purchased the Mavora and Burwood stations of 157,000 acres for £45,000.
Schoolboys on Tour The party of 40 English schoolboys who are touring the Dominion, returned to Wellington from the South Island this morning, and left later for Palmerston North. —P.A.
Minister Visits School The Hon. H. Atmore, Minister of Education, visited the Napier Boys’ and Girls’ High School and the Napier Technical College to-day. He left later for Hastings, where he will inspect the schools and receive deputations tomorrow. Tho Minister will leave later for Waipawa and Dannevirke.—P.A.
Defrauded a Priest With a record of 3S previous convictions for theft and false pretences Daniel Patrick O’Connor was to-day sentenced in the Magistrate’s Court to three months’ hard labour, to be followed by a year’s reformative detention, for obtaining £3 from an hotelkeeper and £2 from a priest by falsely representing that he had just purchased a farm.
Travellers Confer Thirty delegates attended the New Zealand conference of the United Commercial. Travellers' Association, Mr. W. A. Drake presiding. An address was given by the Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Lands, on land settlement, and farming problems. The conference is proceeding. Gaol for Vagrant Said to be sleeping out at Campbell’s Point and cadging food.
