If names do not appear on the. main roll, the supplemental- roll * open until April 3. * 15 The definitions of electors’ qualifications are as follow: ta) A freehold qualification, meanavthat the elector is the beneficial and .lull registered owner of a freehold estate in land of the capital talue of no? less than i, whether subject to en cumbrances or not and not withstand m - that any other person is in occupation or of any part under tenancy. tb) A rating qualification, meaning that the elector is the person whose name appears for the time being in the “occupiers” column in the Valuation lioll in respect of any rateable propertv (c) A residential qualification, meaning that the elector has resided for one year in New Zealand and has lived in Auckland for three months before the time of the election and is a British subject either by birth or by naturalisation in New Zealand. (d) An occupier’s qualification, meaning that the elector is. for the three months before the election, in occupation as a tenant or sub-tenant, or as one of several tenants or sub-tenants, any house, warehouse, office, shop, or other building in Auckland, the rent of which is not less than £lO a year. In elucidation of the occupier’s qualification it is explained that a man renting an office, or shop in Auckland, even though he lives in an outlying suburh which is under a borough council or other local body, can claim an interest in the city, and that he therefore can claim a vote. His wife, also, can claim a vote in her husband’s right. When the subject of the election Is council loans only persons with rating or freehold qualifications can vote.
