ESCAPE FROM DROWNING
TWO WOMEN SAVED AT LAST MINUTE (Special to TUB SUN, IvAITAIA, Monday. While bathing in the surf at Ahipara, on the Ninety Mile Beach, yesterday, two momen, Mrs. T. S. Houston and her sister, Miss J. Bowman, had a narrowescape from being drowned. When they entered the water it was quite calm, but a*ollers began to come in. and the bathers soon found themselves in difficulties. Mr. Houston, attracted by their screams, entered the water, and reached Miss Bowman first. She was exhausted and clung desperately to him, making his progress difficult. Another helper arrived and took charge of Miss Bowman. His wife, who had drifted a long way out was in the last stage of exhaustion when Mr. Houston reached her. The return to the beach was very hard, Mr. Houston being very tired, but assistance was at hand, and all got safely ashore.
