WOMAN BANKRUPT
FAILURE AS RESTAURANT KEEPER A committee of creditors of Miriam. Levina Bovvker, a former restaurantkeeper, was set up this morning to consider an offer toy her husband. Bankrupt’s total debts were set out at £920 17s 6d. There were no assets, She entered business 12 months ago, and carried on until December 28. She took over premises in March, 1928, and borrowed £I,OOO from her husband, out of which he paid £9Ol 15s 7d to tradespeople for fittings and furnishings, handing over the remainder to her. Mrs. Bowker attributed her position to excessive cost of establishing the business, -which proved to be out of all proportion to previous estimates; excessive rent; irksome restrictions regarding cooking; and to severe competition and general trade depression. After Air. G. N. Alorris, the official assignee, had asked a few questions to elucidate bankrupt’s statement, the committee was set up.
