A shocking domestic tragedy, involving the loss of four lives, was discovered to-day at Auchenfiowcr, a suburb of Brisbane. Alfred Ellwood. chemist, his wife and their two children were all found dead at their home by a neighbour. All the bodies were in night attire. The mother and the daughter, Norma, aged 15. were in one bed. and the father and son. George, aged 11. in another bed. All had apparently died of poisoning some time during the week-end. A note was found pinned to the front door of the house saying: Away for the week-end.” The police think it is a case of murder by the father and his suicide. Another note was found inside the house in his writing, which indicated that he contemplated suicide owing to business worries.
The last that was seen of any of the family was on Sunday afternoon. Then the boy George was observed in the garden. Mrs. Ellwood had suffered much from ill-health. The two children were of a fine type and intelligent.
