THAMES HALF HOLIDAY

THURSDAY OR SATURDAY? TOWN EQUALLY DIVIDED (From Our Oxen Correspondent) THAMES, To-day. The chief topic of conversation in Thames is the weekly half-holiday, a question upon which the town is equally divided. Next Thursday is the day decided by the Borough Council for the half-holi-day (hitherto it has been on Saturday). Numerous circulars have been distributed by the “Saturday-ites” and the “Thursduy-ites,” declaring their intentions of adhering to their respective choice. This week will see half the shops adhering to the Friday long night and the other half will try their luck with Saturday. As both sides are equally divided, it is felt the council should take a referendum. As at present constituted the position is ludicrous.
