TE AROHA NEWS
MOTORS IN COLLISION (From Our Own■ Correspondent). TE AROHA, To-day. Yesterday afternoon, when Mr. G. Clark, of Manawaru, was driving his truck along Alexander Road, a car driven by Mr. Steiner, who was accompanied by his wife and family, came out of a by-road and before a smash could be averted the car and truck collided. Mr. Clark’s truck was tipped op its side, but lie escaped uninjured. Mr. Steiner’s car was badly damaged. The radiator was pushed in, the mudguards bent and the lamps broken, but the occupants were not injured. CYCLING AND ATHLETIC CLUB A large muster of Te Aroha business people met last evening in the Fire Brigade Station to consider the question of holding sports at Easter. The president, Mr. W. C. Kennedy, pointed out' that the revenue from gate money and nominations was insufficient to pay the prize money in the event of wet weather, and even with fine weather and a good gate like last year, it was not suffiicent to meet expenses and to pay prize money. Unless the club had a good solid financial backing he could not see how the Te Aroha Cycling and Athletic Club could carry on. Those assembled assured the club that the amount necessary to baqk the club would be found, and a substantial amount toward the programme was promised in the room. The balance should be collected without any trouble. It was decided to hold a sports meeting at Te Aroha on Easter Monday, and a very strong and energetic committee has been appointed to run the meeting. The programme will be made up of chopping, cycling and running events, and a suitable railway timetable has been asked for.
