Society of Accountants The New Zealand Society of Accountants, at its half-yearly council meeting at Wellington, decided that the annual meeting be held in Dunedin next August. * * * Diving Injury Fatal John Herbert King. aged IS*. of Sydenham, Christchurch, who struck the bottom when diving into a pool at Sumner last Saturday, suffering severe injury to his spine, died in the Christchurch Hospital last night.— P.A. *
Auckland Woman’s Death The body of Miss Ellen Sharkay, a resident of Auckland, who had been on a visit to her sister at Hastings for the last five months, was found floating in the old Ngaruroro River at Havelock North early this morning. She had been missing last last Wednesday week.
Farmer’s Leg Broken A sharemilker, Mr. Robert Jessop, of Putaruru, was thrown heavily from his horse on Thursday' when the animal tripped in a rabbit burrow, his right leg being broken. He was taken to the Waikato Hospital.
Missing Nurse Luggage belonging to Nurse Dorothy Margaret McHaffie, who is missing from Christchurch, has been found at Arthur’s Pass railway station, but there is as yet no trace of the woman.
Bookie Fined £75 At the Palmerston North Police Court to-day Charles Joseph Williams was fined £75 for using his premises as a common gaming house. He pleaded guilty. Detective Quirke said that the accused was one of the biggest bettors in Palmerston North. He had no other occupation. Accused had been perfectly frank, he added.—P.A. * *
Drowned In Her Bath Mrs. Ellen Mansfield, living at 491 Manchester Street, Christchurch, was found drowned, lying face downwards in nine inches of water in a bath. The discovery' was made by her son on returning from school at 6 p.m. yesterday.—P.A.
Schooner Still Acround Attempts last evening to refloat the auxiliary schooner Aratapu, which is aground at Karamea, on the West Coast of the South Island, were unsuccessful. Her deck cargo is being removed to-day', and another attempt will be made on to-night’s tide. —P.A.
Warning To Shipping The Secretary-General of the Post Office has received the following navigation warning from Brisbane: —“A cyclone centred to-night approximately north-east of Broadsound has moderate intensity. It is apparently' moving south-east.”I—P.A. 1 —P.A.
Fatal Street Accident John Piercy, aged 60. residing at London Street, Richmond, who was picked up unconscious at the intersection of Dean and Madras Streets on Thursday evening in Christchurch, died in hospital to-day. It is alleged that he was knocked down by a cycle ridden by a youth.—P.A.
Foot Crushed By Winch While working on the waterfront this morning William George Cavnett, of 19 Willow Street, Ponsonby, had a foot crushed in a winch. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where his injuries were attended to. Mr. Cavnett is a married man, aged 36.
