TOSSED THROUGH FENCE
MOTOR DRIVER INJURED CAR HIT BY LORRY Shortly before noon to-day * motor-car standing on the side of Beach Road was struck from behind by a motor-lorry and pushed through the iron fence on to the railway line. The car-driver, Mr. George Painton, jammed between the vehicle and the fence and injured. Mr. Painton. who is o single man. aged 22, living at IS Paris Street. Edendale. was mending a. puncture, when a motor-lorry, driven from the city', struck the back of the car and tossed it through the iron fence dividing Beach Road from the main railway line. Mr. Painton was thrown in front of the car and pinned temporarily against the fence as the vehicle careered through on to the railwav line itself. The car. which was badly damaged, tore out five yards of the fence. Mr. Painton was taken to the Auckland Hospital, and later was reported to be suffering from an injured leg and hurts to one wrist. The scene of the mishap was midway between Anzac Avenue and the Maori Hostel in Gittos Street.
