MUSICAL FESTIVAL
ORATORIO “ST. PAUL” In connection with the Methodist Conference, to be held in Auckland this month, the usual musical festival will follow. This year Mendelssohn’S popular work, “St. Paul,” will be given by the combined Methodist choirs of the city and suburbs, under the baton of Mr. Maughan Barnett. The soloists will be Misses Alma McGruer. Laura Stone, and Messrs. Birrell O’Malley, Frank Sutherland and the Rev. Arthur Mitchell. Mr. Edgar Randal will be at the great organ, and Miss E. Whitelaw, L.R.A.M. will be the leader of the orchestra. The charge of admission is one shilling, to any part of the hall, but seats may be booked for sixpence extra at Strong’s, 146 Queen Street. The choir has been rehearsing for several weeks. and judging by the excellent results achieved, and the high standard which Mr. Barnett always sets, the musical public of Auckland may confidently anticipate a production quite in keeping with the high reputation gained by Auckland for the excellence of its musical festivals.
