The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Sir Austen Chamberlain, in the House of Commons to-day, said instructions were, being sent to the British Ambassador in Lisbon, Sir Colville Barclay, to request the Portuguese Government to order a revision of the case of Mr. A. G. Brewer. Mr. Brewer, who was the second officer of the steamer Clan Lamont, after his arrest on a charge of the theft of LI, was imprisoned for nine months while awaiting trial in Portuguese West Africa, and was then sentenced to imprisonment for 360 days, and to pay a fine of £lB, or undergo another 90 days’ imprisonment.
