On a bottle beside the skeleton was the remains of a label on which were the letters “O” and “N.” The rest had been worn off by the effects of the weather. The skeleton was found by Mr. Amos Woolsey lying about 300yds from the Waiuku-Drury Road and the Patu-mahoe-Waiau Pa Road. It was on Mr. Earnest Taylor’s farm. The Fukekohe police were notified, and Sergeant Cowan and Constable Powell visited the spot. They returned later with Detective-Sergeant Doyle, Detective Sinclair, Dr. McWhirter and the district coroner, Mr. C. K. Dawrie. It was evident that the skeleton had been there for a year or two, as grass had grown over it. The man had been wearing a tweed suit of dark grey and green mixture, a dark grey felt hat with a black band, and boots which were two large for him.
