STOLEN CARS
REWARDS OFFERED FOR CONVICTIONS A.A.A. REVIEWS POSITION For some time the Auckland Automobile Association has been paying 1 reward of £3 for each conviction of people concerned in misappropriation of members’ cars. Almost without exception the rewards have gone to the police. Last evening the council of the association was advisee/, of seven convictions secured by the police. The secretary. Mr. G. Hutchison, stated that two of the cars concerned were owned by members who were unfinancial, and they had not replied to a letter suggesting that in view of the association having to pay out rewards on their account they should at least pay their subscriptions. It was pointed out that there was no intention to reward the police in every case, and the intention had been to encourage private persons to secure convictions. x The council decided that, in future, each case would be considered on its merits.
