Leaving their boat while off shore from Koutu, a bather got into difficulties, but he was saved by the pluck of his girl companMiss MacDonolcl, a chemist’s assistant, and Mr. Wells, a taxi-driver, were swimming about when the boat drifted away. Wells became exhausted. Miss MacDonald, who is a powerful swimmer, supported him for a long time. A party, seeing the empty boat drifting, made for the spot. No sign was seen of the occupants, but at last cries directed the searchers. Wells was semi-conscious when taken into the rescuers’ boat. Miss MacDonald’s pluck undoubtedly saved his life.. Both were taken to the houseboat and medical aid was sought. After receiving restoratives both were able to proceed home.
