ON THE BORDER LINE
INTOXICATED IN CAR MINIMUM FINE IMPOSED A “border-line” case, in which E. P. Short pleaded guilty to having been intoxicated while in charge of a motorcar, was heard before Mr. P. H. Levien, S.M., at the Onehunga Police Court this morning. Dr. W. Howard Thomas certified that when he examined accused shortly after his arrest on Saturday evening he j was only slightly intoxicated, j Sergeant Cruickshank said the Onej hunga police had received telephonic i advice from Newmarket that the car j in question was being driven toward i Onehunga in an erratic manner, and ! on its arrival there the accused was ! arrested. : The magistrate said that the case j would probably never have been heard j of had the Newmarket police not I drawn attention to it. The accused was only just over the border-line and would be let off with a fine of £lO and costs.
