LIMITS TOO NARROW

PAYMENTS TO HOSPITAL BOARD MEMBERS

UNINTENTIONAL BREACHES

(From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day

Under section 23 of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Act, no member of a hospital board may undertake work for the board of a greater value than £5 at any one time or more than £lO

The secretary of the Waikato Board, Mr. E. G. Johnson, mentioned at the meeting of the board to-day that a member of the board had unintentionally contravened the Act, and the subject had been drawn attention to by the audit inspector. Personally, the speaker said, he considered the Act too narrow in its limits in this respect* and on his recommendation it was decided to send a remit to the next hospital boards’ conference, suggesting the alteration of the sums £ 5 and £lO to £lO and £25 respectively-.
