PELTZER IS COMING
GERMAN ATHLETE WILL IGNORE BAN TERMS NEAR FINALITY (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, To-day. Finality as to the terms of the visit of the famous German athlete, Dr. Otto Peltzer, is expected to be reached between the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association and the Victorian Association within the next day or two. The present position is that Peltzer will come to New Zealand unless the difficulty between Victoria and New South Wales as to the financial arrangements for the German champion’s tour is adjusted. Of this there seems little likelihood. The cabled announcement of a few days ago that the German Athletic Association was prohibiting Peltzer’s visit to Australia is not troubling the New Zealand Athletic Council, which states that it possesses information that Peltzer intends to make the trip in spite of the official ban. Similar trouble developed when the German was in America about a year ago. The national body, which wished Peltzer to return home and prepare for the Olympic Games, refused him permission to proceed to Australia, where the Victorian Association had invited him. Peltzer was determined to ignore the prohibition, but at the last moment was recalled to Germany by urgent business. This time he does not mean to return.
