KILLED IN CAR SMASH

CRASH INTO POLE FATALITY AT INVERCARGILL Press Association INVERCARGILL, Sunday. As a result of a serious motor smash early this morning, Mr. Sydney Harold Patten, an employee of A. and T. Burt, Limited, lost his life. A car driven by Mr. R. G. Day, of the Gladstone service station, was going from town toward Gladstone when it crashed into a heavy telegraph pole on the North Road. Mr. Patten was killed outright and Mr. Day was rendered unconscious. A third passenger, Mr. Frederick Gerbes, was also unconscious when picked up, and, with Mr. Day, was removed to the hospital. The latter received several scalp wounds.. Mr. Gerbes was cut about the face.
