OUTBOARD TRIALS
CONTEST AT RUSSELL For the purpose of selecting the outboard speed-boat to represent Auckland in the provincial challenge sheild contest at Bussell after Christmas, the New Zealand Bower Boat Association will hold an elimination race for allcomers on Saturday afternoon. Tlie course, which was specially laid off through the courtesy of the harbourmaster, Captain H. H. Sergeant, is marked in Hobson Bay inside the new railway embankment. Competitors will be required to race over four laps—a distance of four nautical miles. If deemed necessary more than one race will be held. A warning gun will be fired five minutes before the start, which will be on the three-flag system at 2.30 p.m. At the fall of the third flag the boats will cross the starting-line. Each competitor will be warned of his entry into the last lap by the display of a checkered flag. In the event of his selection a competitor must undertake to use the same engine at Russell.
