ON THREE KINGS

VICE REGAL HOLIDAY LADY ALICE FERGUSSON RETURNS Lady Alice Fergusson and party returned to Onehunga by the Government steamer Tutanekai yesterday afternoon, following on a 10-days’ holiday tour of the northern coast, three days of which were spent camping on the Three Ivings. The party consisted of Lady Alive Fergusson, the Countess Metaxa, Mrs. Dougdale, Mr. A. Wliitcombe, of, Auckland, Mr. W. Fraser, engineer to the Whangarei Harbour Board, and Captain Orr Ewing, A.D.C. They left Auckland by the Tutanekai on December 8, and visited several lighthouses on the East Coast, her Excellency going ashore at several places to visit the keepers and their families. The steamer arrived at the Three Kings last Wednesday, and the party camped ashore, while the Tutanekai set out to visit other lights in the vicinity. The stay on these lonely islands —which lie about 35 miles north of Capo Maria Van Diemen —was enjoyed, Lady Alice Fergusson being keenly interested in the variety of plants to be found. The Tutanekai picked up the party again on Saturday, and after calling at Dargaville and Kaipara, returned to Onehunga yesterday. This is not the first occasion on which Lady Alice Fergusson lias toured the New Zealand coast in a Government steamer. When she visited New Zealand with her parents, the Earl and Countess of Glasgow, about 30 years ago, she made several trips round the coast in the old Hinemoa, now lying idle in Hobson Bay. The Tutanekai later replaced the Hinemoa for lighthouse work. Shortly before returning to England, the Earl of Glasgow, who was then Governor of New Zealand, took a brief holiday on board the Tutanekai, which Captain Bollons commanded at that period. Lady Alice Fergusson and party left for Wellington by train last evening.
