CHURCH ON THE BEACH

ONEHUNGA PROPOSAL APPROVED PLAN FOR SUMMER MONTHS Open-air church services un the beach are to be held at Onehunga during the summer months. The United Protestant Churches of Onehunga have been granted permission by the Borough Council to conduct services near the beach at the foot of Church Street on Sunday afternoons during January and February, and a committee representing all the churches which will participate has been set up to attend to the proper conduct of the service. The Mayor, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, at a meeting of the Borough Council last evening, supported the scheme and hoped that open-air Sunday-schools for the children would be established. The Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational Churches, the Church of Christ, and the Salvation Army have co-operated with the idea of taking the Gospel to adults and children in the sunshine and fresh air, and as most of the Sunday-schools are closed during January on account of the heat, the beach services will act as a partial substitute. In an endeavour to hold the interest of both adults and children, two short addresses for each in turn and bright singing will be held, the whole service not exceeding an hour.
