RAILWAYS EARN LESS

BIG DROP IN SOUTH FiGURES FOR LAST MONTH (Special to THE SUN) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A substantial decline in the earnings of the railways for the four weeks ended November 10 was shown in the department’s working account. The net revenue for the period was £39.853 as against £ G 5,901 for the similar period of last year. The gross revenue of £ 566,190 is less by £8,343, and expenses have inerased by £17,705 to £526,343. North Island lines earned £317,242, a drop of £6,597. giving a net revenue of £40,978, a reduction of £10,330. The loss in the South Island is much greater than last year, the amount being £16,8.52 as against £1,095 for tho similar period. The working profits for the 32 weeks of this financial year are lower by £42,934, that} of the North Island having fallen by £44,965, and that of- the South by £6,855. On the other hand, the net revenue from services other than railway operation has increased by £ B.SBG.
