DEPARTURE FROM ROTORUA (truui Our Ou:t t Correspondent) ROTORUA, Thursday. I Mr. F. F. Hoekly, late member for J 1 Rotorua. Mrs. Meekly and family were j | entertained by a large number of representative residents at a social in the ; Peerless Mall, Rotorua, last evening. ! The Mayor, Mr. J. X. McLean, in saying farewell to the late member for ! the district and his family, who arc ■ leaving Rotorua, said that they were 1 sorry to lose so good a citizen. During | his residence in Rotorua Mr. Hoekly I had endeared himself to a wide circle 1 of friends. He had done his duty to the district i und devoted his energies to forwarding i the interests of all. It was with deep j regret that, on behalf of the citizens. !ho said farewell to Mr. Mockly amt j i family, and hoped that they would ! again return to live in Rotorua. Mrs. E. Robertson, on behalf of the j women of Rotorua, made an acknowlodgment of the great services rendered | to everyone in the district, not only by ( I the late member, but by Mrs. Mockly. , Mr. H. M. Martin also spoke on behalf ot the farming community. Mr. Hoekly thanked the various i speakers for their remarks, and said : to serve those who had entrusted him with their confidence was a pleasure | not a duty. At all times he had given J his best to the interests of a constitu- | ency that he had represented for nine j | years. During his stay*in Rotorua he j j had made many firm friends and he and I liis family were leaving with the deep- \ cst regret. Whether he would return j or not v. as in the lap of the gods. His j j defeat at the polls left no bitterness, j Those who went into the battle must * take defeat with a smile.
