FALL INTO RIVER-BED

MOTORISTS ESCAPE INJURY (Front Our Own Correspondent) WAIHI, Monday. A party of motorists, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Ward and family, of Martin Road, Waihi, set out for a drive on Saturday afternoon, pulling up at the pond near Waikino. On entering the car for the return journey. Mr. Ward put the vehicle in motion, and almost immediately one of the wheels swerved toward the bank side of the road. The wheels locked and the car went over the edge, a sheer drop of 25 feet, into the Ohinemuri River, which at that pqint contained only about a foot of water. The car, which landed on its side, was extensively damaged, but the members of the party had a remarkable escape, not one receiving injuries beyond a scratch or two
