“ALMOST HUMAN”

CITY POWER SUPPLY NEW AUTOMATIC PLANT Described as being “almost human,” the new automatic gear installed in the King’s Wharf station was inspected by members of the Auckland Power Board at the close of yesterday’s meeting. The new plant will convert the station into an almost wholly automatic power distributor when the supply from Arapuni is available, and the automatic ge&r will* enable power distribution to be handled with the minimum of manual labour. The plant will automatically deal with breakdowns and practically take charge of the whole station. Yesterday an automatic power failure was created and the plant remedied it. In addition, it was shown how other machines were automatically brought into action to take over when the voltage became too high. It was explained that practically every known fault was provided for, and a complete “shut-down” of power from Arapuni was demonstrated, showing that a failure from this source would immediately bring other units into operation.
