Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Northern Wairoa Scottish Society are as follow: —Chief, Air. D. L. Ross (re-elected unopposed); chieftains, Aressrs. J. G. Wilson (Alititai), A. W. Christie (Dargaville), D. Middleton (Kaihu), C. Johnson (Raupo), J. G. Barclay (Pukeliuia), W. Williamson (Te Kopuru), and A. Danks (Hoanga); chaplain, the Rev. N. O. White; bard, Air. J. Kerr (Raupo); piper, Air. D. W. Rae; secretary and treasurer. Air. Alex Barlass; assistant-secretary, ATr. D. Brenttier; committee, Alessrs. G. Nicol, J. Cochrane, W. J. Gorrie and H. Koseveare. The society had a very successful year in every way and still greater success seems assured for the coming season. * * * A branch of the Auckland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was formed last evening, when a meeting convened for the purpose by Airs. A. Younghusband was attended by about thirty persons. The Alayor, Air. F. A. Jones, presided. The speakers were Airs. A. Younghusband and Mrs. O. R. Younghusband. organising secretary of the Auckland branch. The following officers were appointed: President, Air. F. A. Junes; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames G. N. Hayes and J. Treadwell, the Revs. J. C. Fussell and N. O. White; hon. secretary and treasurer, Airs. Adele Younghusband; hon. auditor, Air. W. Martin; hon. solicitor. Air. F. C. Gould; committee, Alesdames M, McCulloch, P. Clifford, R. Marston, J. Dovolosky. Dr. Shortt, Alessrs. F. J. Dargaville, Marsh, G. Dunn and J. Alasters.
