FANCY DRESS DANCE
The Convent School children held a fancy dress dance in the Peerless Hall at Rotorua on Friday evening:. The function was a great success, there being a record attendance. Mr. J. Duff was in charge of the “Grand March” and the judges were the ; Mayoress, Mrs. J. X. McLean and Mrs. W. Galbraith. The prize winners were:—Best fancy ' dress over 12: Winnie Xorman (Gipsy), j P. Tapsell (question mark). Best ; fancy dress under 12: Den. Hawkins (Victorian), William Fitzgerald (Father Christmas). Best fancy dress under seven: P. Hansen and W. Richards (a pair of angels), Selwyn Clubb (jester). Original costume over 12: Edna Street (R. M.T. Co.), J. Short (news boy). Original costume under 12: T. Fitzgerald (maypole), Clem Xewmarch (black and white). Under seven: Molly Street (onions), Jack Fitzgerald (Christmas tree). Special prizes were awarded to Douglas McXabb (skeleton), Frederick Clubb (firefly), Desmond Clubb (Chinese mandarin), Eleanor Hampson (fairy). | Jessie Morland (Pixie-Uno Cheese), j Patricia Wiltshire (fairy). ! Mr. W. A. Carter was the judge for the best fancy dress set, for which he awarded first prize to Miss Xina Berge’s set and second prize to Miss Hawkin’s set. Other prizes were awarded to the older children as follows: “Fireflies,” first prize“cards” second, and “All Xations ” third. During tho evening Mr. A. M. Stephenson, president of the Rotorua Rugby Union presented the cup won by the Convent School football team * to the captain. Brian Campbell. They > played seven matches, gaining 91 points, with 36 against them. ; After 10 p.m. an adult dance followed and music was supplied by Shalfoon’s i Jazz Orchestra. The Monte Carlo j dance was won by Miss W. Mitchell and Mr. J. Cheater.
